Network Security (Threats & Defense)

 

Security is one of those topics that’s easy to overlook until something goes wrong. Even tools like ping can be misused in DDoS attacks.

Two threats I focused on:

1. Phishing

   • What it does: Tricks people into revealing passwords or personal info

   • Damage: Identity theft, data breaches

   • Defense: Spam filters, 2FA, user education

2. Ransomware

   • What it does: Locks your files and demands money to get them back

   • Damage: Data loss, downtime, $$$

   • Defense: Backups, antivirus software, regular updates

I’ve learned that protecting systems is about having layers just like locking your doors, using an alarm, and keeping your valuables out of sight. One fix isn’t enough. It has to be proactive and continuous.
